A Hornchurch cafe has been accused of being racist by customers because of tiny toothpick Union Jack flags that are served with every plate of food.
The owner of Station 164, in Station Road said that since the World Cup the number of problems has risen, and that 3-4 people every week have complained about the one-inch flags that are put in toast, and sandwiches.

The fact that they are going out of business as they are completely insolvent has nothing to do with it ... but 4 customers a week complaining about a flag will put them out of business !

So, the cafe owner thought, "I know a good way to drum up business. We'll get a story in the paper showing two miserable looking women handling some badly cooked food while moaning about their customers and boasting about ignoring their complaints. What could possibly go wrong?"

Lato precisely. Or if its causing that many complaints why do it? Seems a bit daft to provoke your customers so that you can then.complain about them.complaining about you. I find that every bit as odd as going to a cafe that is pissing you off.
Weird how the union jack has become so contentious again. Weren't that long ago that it was a design icon on everything from pillows cases to coffee cannisters. Perception is a strange beast.

If that's the cafe between the station & the Turkish barbers (opposite the knocking shop), they've just changed owners so I expect this is just gagging for some free publicity.
The gaff a bit further down the road, past the Railway Hotel is far better.
